Front Brake Rebuild

Troubeshooting

  1. Unable to remove brake caliper mounting bolts:
    • These dudes are sometime quite hard to remove especially if they have been in place for many years. You can soak the bolts overnight with a thread release solvent (e.g., Liquid Wrench, etc.) to help loosen the bolts. You can also try using an impact wrench if you have one. We tried an impact wrench but had no luck freeing the bolts with it. We found that the best way to remove the bolts was to use a long-handled, 1/2" drive ratchet or socket handle. If you have room under the fender well you can also extend the ratchet's effective handle length by placing a length of pipe over the handle thus providing more leverage.
  2. Unable to re-install brake caliper; won't fit over rotor:
    • Make sure your compressed the brake caliper's cylinder all the way in. Re-do step 11 in the instructions.
